Children's Music Program

“Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”—Mark 19.

It was a six-year-old in Hong Kong who said, “When I hear lovely music I feel I can fly.” It was a nine-year-old in America who said, “Music is important because it lets kids’ brains flow into new experiences and learn new ways.” It was a former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, who said that music is about communication, creativity, and cooperation and when they study music young people “have the opportunity to build on these skills, enrich their lives, and experience the world from a new perspective.”

In any land, in any language, at any age, music provides the joy of discovery and brings light into our lives.

At St. John’s, under the leadership of Candace Costa, our children's music program is fully integrated into the our Christian Education program. All children in Sunday School participate in music in small groups determined by age. They learn music from a wide range of sources, including the music of the liturgy and familiar hymns. And the children share their music during worship on a regular basis.
