Confirmation

At St. John’s, we make a promise at baptism to help our youth grow into and with their faith. But as others have learned before us, most confirmation classes boil down to a classroom experience: a teacher and a bunch of young people who aren’t terribly interested in sitting up straight and listening to a lecture.

So we changed the format, using the FLOW service as the worship component and then breaking into small groups for discussion and study. This format blends education, fellowship and service, and it’s fun for the youth, their families, and others in attendance. This is an exciting and energy-packed form of discipleship that cuts across generations.

The promise we’re keeping? The one many parents and parishioners made for their children when they were baptized as infants: “I will raise you in the church.”

Parental involvement is as mandatory as the participation of their children. If you’re looking for a “drop and run” confirmation program, this is not it. A week of confirmation camp at Mt. Cross and participation in St. John’s acolyte program, known as the Order of St. John, are also key components of our confirmation program.

It all leads to Confirmation Sunday in the Fall of the students' freshman year of high school, when we hear these young people say “yes” to their faith in a moving and meaningful worship service. Come join us.
