“Now the welfare of a city does not solely consist in accumulating vast treasures, building mighty walls and magnificent buildings, and producing a goodly supply of guns and armor. Indeed, where such things are plentiful and reckless fools get control of them, it is so much the worse and the city suffers great loss. A city’s best and greatest welfare, safety, and strength consist rather in its having many able, learned, wise, honorable, and well-educated citizens.” Martin Luther “To the Councilmen of All Cities in Germany That They Establish and Maintain Schools” |
This year's program is designed as an all-church, all-family, intergenerational event. At 5:00 pm we will meet in the worship space for a time of praising God through music, prayer, conversation, scripture, and more. Then, at 6:00 pm we will gather to enjoy dinner. At 6:30 pm we will break up into our classes. The success of this program will be God's Spirit reaching out to the confirmation students and others present through you, and God reaching you through others. Come join us as we all grow in our faith.
Adult Education
Below are some of the adult classes offered. Check out the bulletin announcements for further details.
Social Issues Forum: Devoted to the consideration of a wide range of issues, this group meets once a month to discuss current events and issues of greater social significance. The Social Issues Forum also occasionally sponsors All-Congregation gatherings.
WELCA Study Topic: A monthly Bible study for Circle facilitators, this group is open to anyone who would like to attend. Can’t make it to Circle this month? Looking for a group of women to join? This is a great place to start! Led by Pastor Scot Sorensen.
New Members Class: St. John’s congregation welcomes new members, and this class helps our new members feel more at home. With a brief history of the Lutheran church, a history of St. John’s, and an introduction to our ministries, the New Members Class provides a chance for fellowship as well as education. In addition, all new members meet their Shepherds who welcome and guide them through their first weeks and months in the congregation. The next New Members Class will be held after Easter.
These classes are held on Sunday mornings from 10:30 - 11:15 a.m.
