First Communion

We call Holy Communion a mystery…a mystery of how the promise of Jesus’ presence can be, as Martin Luther said, “in, with and under” ordinary things like bread and wine and grape juice. Luther taught that the Lord’s Supper is a way of communicating the grace of God, that this gift is itself the real presence of God’s forgiveness and mercy, nourishing us in union with the Lord and with others. And it does not make sense to withhold it from young people when they become interested in receiving the sacrament.

At St. John’s , we provide “training” to children as young as seven. It is designed to provide a basic understanding with regards to receiving Holy Communion. Every year during Lent, we hold a class for 2nd and 3rd graders to prepare them to receive their First Communion. You are invited to contact Pastor Frank Espegren or Pastor Jose Luis LaTorre directly to schedule an individual appointment.
