Each year we offer the challenge of taking on the spiritual
practices of study and prayer during the season of Lent. This
year our devotional is completely online. You will be encouraged
to use your copy of Bread for the Day (which can be picked up in
the church office) each day, and a daily question will be posed
for you to contemplate. Each daily question will be posted on
Facebook so you
can participate in a conversation with the St. John’s community.
Our hope is that this Lenten season will be a Season of
Reflection.
Join us at 12:15 & 7:00 pm as we mark the beginning of the
season of Lent through the imposition of ashes and the
celebration of Holy Communion. All are welcome.
This is the day that celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into the
city of Jerusalem. It also marks the beginning of Holy Week and
events leading up to Jesus’ death and resurrection. Communion
will be served at all services.

When people in our community come face to face with the horror of
homelessness, they turn to Francis House Center.
Francis House Center is a soulful place that provides assistance,
mentoring and resources for Sacramento’s homeless community. For
more than 40 years, Francis House has served as a beacon of light
and hope to the most vulnerable among us. It is a place where
people are treated with dignity as they arrive seeking help for
some of the most basic needs.
Lectio Divina (‘holy reading/listening’)
is the ancient method of prayerfully reading the Bible, the Word
of God. Originally cultivated by monastic orders – but now an
important part of the lives of many Christians from different
traditions.
Gathering together to read the word of God, to talk and pray
about it, and to enjoy the company of others is vital to our
growth as Christians. But it can also be really fun, too!
