St. John's General Fund

When a contribution is given to St. John’s, unless otherwise directed, it is applied to what is called the “General Fund.” From this Fund we support not only the ministries of our congregation, but also the ministries in our neighborhood and literally around the world.

The first 11% of everything given to the General Fund is given to our Sierra Pacific Synod, who shares it with our national church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Another 6% is shared with local ministry partners, such as the St. John’s Shelter Program, the Central Downtown Food Basket, Francis House, and Loaves & Fishes.

The General Fund provides the financial means for our Discipleship, Service and Outreach, as well as for the Worship ministries to flourish. Pastors, staff and facilities are needed to support these ministries – and the General Fund supports all of these services.

New members and all who request them are supplied with a set of numbered offering envelopes which helps the office staff track their contributions. We encourage everyone to use their envelopes because it makes the tasks of posting contributions much simpler.
