Planned Giving & Bequests

July 6 B11.jpg

After considering the needs of your family, you may wish to leave all, or a portion, of your estate to one or more ministries of St. John’s. By contributing to St. John’s, we have an opportunity to serve people in ways which we as individuals could never accomplish alone. Even small bequests are appreciated - just look what our Lord did with the loaves and fishes!

There are a number of opportunities to give:

  • Remember St. John’s Lutheran Church in your will.
  • Give to St. John’s through life insurance or through a property trust
  • Help reduce the principle on our church loan through a gift to the Building Fund
  • Give to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Trust Fund which provides grants annually to ministry projects which seek to extend the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • Give to the St. John’s Operational Trust Fund which is used for special needs and projects outside of the General Fund budget.

Benefits of Making a Charitable Gift

  • You have the satisfaction of knowing that work you supported in this life can be carried on after your death.
  • You have a chance to say "thank you" to an organization that has been particularly helpful or meaningful to you and your family during your lifetime.
  • You can designate your bequest as a memorial to loved ones.
  • In the case of a life income gift, you can receive income from the gift, part of which may be tax-free.
  • Most charitable gifts are deducted from the estate before taxes, possibly resulting in reduced taxes for your heirs.

Memorials
Memorial gifts may be made in memory of any loved one. Undesignated memorials will be carefully used by the Congregation Council to extend the mission of St. John’s.

If a person, or family, wishes to make a designated memorial gift, other than to existing Dedicated Accounts, (Building Fund, Organ Fund, Trust Fund or Operational Trust Fund, Rwanda Fund) they should speak with one of the pastors. All requests for a dedicated memorial gift to something other than the established funds must be approved by the Congregation Council.
