Parish Nurse Ministry![]() Parish Nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that emphasizes health and healing within a faith community. Our parish nurses, Cindy Carroll, RN and Susan Carson, RN, are specially trained and serve as members of the pastoral staff. They play a highly visible role in the life and activities of our congregation. Their responsibilities include: 2. Personal Health Counselor: Discuss health issues and problems with individuals; make home, hospital and nursing home visits as needed. 3. Integrate Faith and Health: Assist members in identifying more deeply the relationship of the member’s faith with his/her own health. 4. Referral Source: Act as a liaison with congregational resources and community services. 5. Facilitate Program Development: Recruit, coordinate and provide resources to volunteers within the congregation. 6. Meet regularly with clergy to discuss activities and non-confidential information about health concerns in the congregation. 7. Maintain confidentiality and appropriate confidential records. 8. Work closely with the Health Ministry Team to coordinate health promotion activities. 9. Participate in community networking for parish nursing and health ministry. Parish Nursing is an independent model of nursing, regulated through Scope & Standards of Practice and recognized by the American Nurses Association.
