Travel guru Rick Steves comes to Sacramento for a discussion of Travel as a Spiritual Act. Rick Steves–author of over 50 European travel guidebooks and host of the PBS-TV series, Rick Steves’ Europe–believes that thoughtful travel expands our world view and shapes how we address the challenges confronting our nation politically. Having spent four months a year overseas for the last 30 years, Rick feels that travel helps us “challenge truths we were raised to think were self-evident and God-given.” His classes have helped millions of Americans not only enjoy maximum travel thrills per mile, minute and euro…but become better citizens of our planet. Rick shares how the other 96 percent of humanity sees our nation and explores how his social activism has grown naturally out of his travel experiences. He’s fresh back from lots of travels (including a TV production trip to Iran) and will be on hand after his talk for questions and autographs.

There are two ways to enjoy Rick Steves’ visit to Sacramento:

Reception + Lecture: $99 per person
Includes admission to an intimate reception with Rick Steves prior to the lecture with light refreshments, reserved seating for the lecture, and an autographed copy of one of Rick Steves’ books. (Space is limited.)

All event proceeds benefit The Rwanda School Project and Lutheran Social Services of Northern California.

Rwanda School Project:
The Rwanda School Project aims to foster and promote secondary education in Rwanda, a country torn by genocide little more than a decade ago. Today, only 15% of Rwanda’s young people attend secondary school, but the Rwanda School Project has opened a Junior and Senior High School serving 500 students in Western Rwanda. With a focus on sustainability, the Rwanda School Project uses an Expeditionary Learning model and holds all classes in English. Supported in part by the Lutheran Church of Rwanda and the ELCA, the school is open to students of any ethinic group, nationality, religion, or social class and makes an effort to recruit a diverse student body. Lutheran Social Services of Northern California:
Lutheran Social Services responds when people are vulnerable because of homelessness, mental illness, drug addiction or disaster. Providing support services and compassionate guidance, we help individuals and families to stabilize their lives and become self-sufficient. LSS currently serves over 2575 clients in Sacramento, San Francisco, Contra Costa and San Joaquin Counties.[www.lssnorcal.org]
