Sanctuary Choir

Thomas Carlyle called music “the speech of angels:” Tolstoy said it was ” the shorthand of emotion.” Longfellow labeled it the “universal language of mankind.”

Call it what you prefer, but at St. John’s music magnifies the presence of the Holy Spirit during worship, helping us to celebrate and appreciate God’s love as individuals and collectively as a congregation.

At 9:00 am, our choir performs a variety of choral works, hymns that reflect the scripture readings of the season and occasional sacred anthems, providing the essence of our high worship service.

Our cantors often lead the congregation in the singing of the psalms.

The choir has 35 members and rehearses on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. It is led by St. John’s Director of Worship and Music, Steven Johnson.
