In an article written by a shepherd from Texas, he said that the
sheep follow him, not because of his authoritative directions,
but because they trust his voice. Jesus modeled for us the many
traits of shepherd leadership.
On July 1, at 7:30 a.m., seventeen St. John’s youth, two adult
chaperones and myself headed to California Lutheran University
for the Western States Youth Gathering. For five days, we hung
out together — in worship, rocking out to all kinds of music,
listening to incredible speakers, doing community service,
watching fireworks, and getting into fun games and HOT summer
water activities! Many of the speakers were Bishops from the West
and they talked about God’s Love in the Balance.
This is shaping up to be a very special summer for the Junior
High and High School students of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
The Junior High Students will be making their annual trek to
Shalom Camp at Mount Cross in the Santa Cruz mountains in
mid-July. This is very important component of the Confirmation
process of faith formation. You will see these students
commissioned before the congregation on Sunday, July 10 as they
head off that day for a week at camp.
