Coming Up at St. John's

With less than week until Christmas, we are called to remember that Christmas is not meant to be a time of chaos, debt and family feuds. Instead, let's remember the words from the first chapter of the Gospel of John: "What has come into being in (Jesus) was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it." (John 1:4)

Let us not be consumed by the pressures of this time of year, but allow Jesus to be light in our darkness so we can experience the true meaning of Christmas.

Attached to this email is an invitation (in pdf format) to our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services. We hope you will pass it on to your family and friends.

a light in the darkness... Jesus is born!

With Christmas quickly approaching there are many opportunities to give. Please take a moment to consider each of these opportunities that St. John's is providing for you to give to the needy, the sick and to honor your loved ones.

This is also a reminder that the California Marathon is coming through downtown this Sunday, December 7. Click on the News story below to get more information on road closures and where you should park for worship.

Pastor Jose Luis needs a car as soon as possible. His 1993 white minivan finally died!

He is looking for something for less than $2,000. Any kind of car that works will be ok. Please help him to find wheels. If you have a lead on any vehicle contact Pastor Jose Luis.

F.L.O.W. into Oktoberfest!

Good German Lutherans, we need you!

Sunday, October 26th is the Oktoberfest dinner and we’re looking for all the Germans & German-Americans (you know who you are, sporting names like Shultz & Graalfs & Zinzer) to show off your culinary heritage.

Join us for FLOW (worship) at 5pm in Goethe Hall and dinner immediately following at 6pm in Oehler Hall.

We’ll meet in Oehler hall to raise a mug of (root) beer and pay tribute to the heritage that is St. John’s. If you’d like to be part of the fun, call or e-mail Rhonda Holmen (296-8886 / RHolmen@GoLyon.com) and let her know what you will be bringing.

You don't have to bring food to participate, but if you are German and have something you like to make, we'd love to have you share.

Of course this is not a competition, but the Scandinavians really put on a spread for their dinner last year.

Let the games begin!

NEEDED: Flat bed trailer to get St. John’s Christmas Tree from Apple Hill to 17th & L! If you can help with either a trailer, or want to help cut it down, please contact Darren Zinzer (youth@stjohnslc.org). Target date is either December 5th or 6th.
