Join us for the Martin Luther King Jr. March on January 21st!

On Monday, January 21, 2019, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Sacramento churches, non-profit organizations, schools, local officials, and residents will join March for the Dream in memory of Dr. King. Marchers will express their continuing or renewed support for the America he envisioned, one where all people, regardless of race or ethnicity, are seen and treated as equally valued human beings and neighbors.

St. John’s Racial Justice Group encourages the St. John’s community to meet up and march together (again) in support of that vision, recognizing it is still aspirational rather than a fulfilled reality. Dr. King explained his own perspective on the need for and purpose of such demonstrations in his Letter from Birmingham Jail.

We also invite you to join us after the march at the church for lunch and discussion of the experience. (You are welcome to join the meal and discussion even if you don’t march.)

St. John’s Racial Justice Group began meeting during the summer of 2018 and has been exploring the reasons we feel a need for Racial Justice ministry. We discuss racial justice as a personal as well as a Christian calling, entailing both individual and collective response. We hope you will join us for the march and/or lunch and discussion.

Can’t make it? During 2019, St. John’s Racial Justice Group expects to offer other opportunities to engage this discussion and arrive at practical, concrete steps for living into racial justice individually and as a community.

Note: Details forthcoming on where and when we will convene. Please watch for more information, and/or contact one of us, or Rebekah Turnbaugh.
