God's Work, Our Hands Sunday - Sept 13

September 4, 2020

Although we have some limitations around gathering together to serve in our community this year due to COVID-19, God is still working powerfully in the world and the church can still be powerfully present in that work. This year, our God's Work Our Hands activities will be primarily online, or in our own homes. Stay tuned next week for even more details!

WHAT IS GOD'S WORK OUR HANDS, ANYWAY?

Join Pr. Amy and Rebekah Turnbaugh for a conversation about what it means to say we are God's hands in the world. We will meet during Sunday, September 13th coffee hour (10:15-11:15am) on Zoom. We'll take a look back at GWOH and what has been meaningful to us, and look forward to what GWOH could look like in the future. If you are interested in being a part of this conversation, email Rebekah Turnbaugh for the Zoom invite at rebekah.turnbaugh@stjohnslc.org.

GOD'S WORK OUR FEET

Join Pastor Amy in supporting the Sacramento Food Bank, which has been a great source of nutritious food for St. John's and other organizations to prepare meals for those neighbors in need. The Run to Feed the Hungry is an annual Thanksgiving Day fun run (they say the largest in the country!). This year will be a virtual fun run and we are hoping St. John's team can raise some funds to support the food bank.

If you want to run, you can register to run and raise your own funds here (join the "St. John's Lutheran Sacramento" team): https://raceroster.com/events/2020/32637/run-to-feed-the-hungry-virtual-10k5k

If you just want to donate to the cause click here: https://raceroster.com/events/2020/32637/run-to-feed-the-hungry-virtual-10k5k/pledge/team/273233

CARE FOR CREATION

The Care for Creation Team will be sharing with us ideas about changes we can make in our homes and in our actions to better care for the environment. Stay tuned for their suggestions and then commit to having a conversation as a family or consider for yourself how you can do your part. We'll post a way for you to "pledge" and then share the cumulative impact we'll be making as a congregation!

ADVOCACY WITH LOPP-CALIFORNIA

The Lutheran Office of Public Policy -- California will be hosting trainings around some important propositions that will be on the ballot in November. Sign up for one to better understand them and learn how you can take action. Look for ways to sign up soon.

To engage in a conversation with the Care for Creation team and get updates on these items, please see the event item on our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/627268797972158. If you do not have a Facebook account, never fear--we will be sending details via email as well!
