Community Outreach Groups

Here at St. John's, we believe we are called to be a grace-filled community that seeks deeper connections with all our neighbors. One way we build these intentional communities are through community outreach groups. These groups gather around a particular shared interest or communal value, and intend to regularly invite new people in. This is one way we share God's love with the world!

If you are interested in becoming a part of any of these community outreach groups, please email Rev. Amy Kienzle at amy.kienzle@stjohnslc.org.

Midtown Neighborhood Group

The Midtown Neighborhood Group works with the Director of Outreach to learn about our neighbors and neighborhood. We seek to discover the gifts and graces present in our community and prayerfully discern how we can be part of what God is already up to.

20s & 30s Young Adult Group

Our Young Adult group is a space for people in their 20s and 30s to gather, be in community, and explore their faith with others.

LGBTQ+ 1128 Group

Have you ever felt hurt by the church because of your sexual or gender identity? As LGBTQ+ and ally members of St. John’s, we see you. You are God’s child, and we love you as you are. You are welcome here. Share your story. Hear our stories. And may God’s story meet ours and bring healing and affirmation.

1128’s intention is to create and hold a safe, inclusive space for LGBTQ+ people and allies to come together in order to do the following:

  • Know, share, and live into the expansive love and grace of Christ
  • Share our stories, hurts, and identities without judgment
  • Facilitate healing through storytelling, affirmation, and fellowship
  • Be a transformative agent through education, in reach, and outreach with regard to LGBTQ+ issues and Christian faith and life

The Christian Church's legacy to LGBTQ+ people is one built on historic hostility that has resulted in pain and separation of LGBTQ+ people from religious communities that were meant to share and live the expansive love of God to all creation in and through Christ. Rather than following Jesus' example of welcoming all people in love and building them up in faith, the Church has often disenfranchised LGBTQ+ people, becoming the stumbling block to faith that Jesus warned against. 1128 was established to become part of the movement to end this cycle and to bring healing and reconciliation to LGBTQ+ people both within and outside the Church.

Pub Theology

Our Pub Theology group gathers at local coffee shops and breweries for fellowship and conversation. All levels of experience and skepticism are welcome and valued!

Pub Theology gathers once a month - on either Sunday afternoons or Thursday evenings. Be sure to check out our events page for the details on this month's Pub Theology!

Dinner Groups

While St. John’s is a downtown/midtown church, its members come from all over the Greater Sacramento area. Dinner groups help to bring together St. John’s members and friends in their own neighborhoods to get to know each other, develop friendships, and support one another!
