Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • I'm new to St. John's! What can I expect in worship?

Looking for a new church in the Sacramento area? Or a virtual church that offers a weekly livestream service? St. John's would love for you to join our family! St. John's has been located in the heart of Sacramento for over 150 years. We are part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) and the Sierra Pacific Synod. We open our arms and hearts to everyone and work to make sure new members and visitors feel at home in our community.

    In-Person Services: 9:00am & 11:30am

    Livestream Service: 9:00am on YouTube

The St. John's Nursery is open for childcare during both the 9:00am & 11:30am worship services.

Located on the corner of 17th and L streets amidst the Sacramento Midtown neighborhood, our historic, grand, yet intimate sanctuary has been a holy space filled by the Holy Spirit in the many ways we gather to be the church in worship. Our unique sanctuary is home to robust worship services, inspirational musical offerings, and laughter of loved ones in intentional community.

  • Where do I park at St. John's?

The parking lot next to St. John's will be reserved every Sunday for those with mobility challenges. As always, we provide free parking to everyone in the parking structure located on K Street between 17th & 18th Streets from 8:30am to 2:00pm every Sunday, or as stated on the sign at the entrance.

For those with mobility challenges, we have curbside assistance to the elevator at the white loading zone in front of the church.

  • I want to volunteer, where do I start?

Wonderful! St. John's is home to dozens of volunteer opportunities for people of all ages, abilities, time preferences, and desires.

The best place to begin is to connect with St. John's Associate Director of Volunteer Management, Joel Barkel, for a conversation. He'll share more about the different volunteer opportunities, volunteer trainings, and next steps. Email Joel to grab a cup of coffee & chat today! joel.barkel@stjohnslc.org

  • I have a Prayer Request or would like to talk with a Pastor, who do I call?

We would love to pray for you - either by adding you to our public Prayer List the congregation holds dearly, or by praying with you privately. If you have a prayer request, you are welcome to connect with either Pastors or our Parish Nurse.

    Pastor Frank - frank.espegren@stjohnslc.org

    Pastor Jon - jon.haug@stjohnslc.org

    Suzi Taylor, RN - parishrn@stjohnslc.org

  • I want to have my wedding at St. John's!

St. John's doesn't currently rent the sanctuary out for public weddings. However, if you are a member of the congregation interested in having your wedding at St. John's, please email the Director of Administration, Kat Thorp, at katherine.thorp@stjohnslc.org

  • I have children, what programs do you offer for them?

The young people of St. John's are just as much a part of the community as older folks! Young people serve in worship, participate in faith formation programs, serve our neighbors in need, and bring laughter and joy to all that we do.
